mysteryBloggerAward (1)

“According to Okoto Enigma, ‘Mystery Blogger Award is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging, and they do it with so much love and passion.’ ”

The rules:

For this nomination I have to:

  1. Thank whoever nominated me and include a link to their blog.
  2. Tell my readers three things about myself.
  3. Nominate bloggers I feel deserve the award.
  4. Answer questions from the person who nominated me.
  5. Ask my nominees 5 questions of my choice with one weird or funny one.

wide-eyed wandering spoonie

First, I want to thank wideeyedwanderingspoonie for nominating me for this blogging award. I’m honored that you’ve enjoyed my posts enough to present me with this – Thank you.

Three things about myself:

  1. I am a professional artist as well as being an author. I have had gallery showings in Nairobi, Okinawa, Vancouver, Revelstoke, Kelowna, Vernon, Seattle, Berkeley, San Jose, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and I had work in the 1988 International Animation Festival in Shanghai
  2. I disliked the short-form, ‘y’ ending of my first name so much, that I went through high school using an assumed name (it wasn’t my legal middle-name either). I had IDs and diplomas in both names by the end… I even convinced a couple of people that I was twins (long story).
  3. I have found thousands of four-leaf clovers in my life; it’s where the OCD part of me goes into overdrive.

My answers to wideeyedwanderingspoonie:

  • What is your favorite book or author?
Tough call – Neil Gaiman is famously quoted having said — ‘Picking five favorite books is like picking the five body parts you’d most like not to lose.’ You’re asking for one… Okay, Barbara Hambly’s “Dragonsbane” – it came out the year I graduated… Yes, I’m old. As to why it’s my favorite, it’s hard to put into words. Maybe it’s because the protagonists and I are kindred spirits? I can credit it (and the Herald books by Mercedes Lackey) with rekindling my interest in creative writing.
  • Is there a movie that changed your life, which one?
“The Sound of Music” gave me a visceral aversion to musicals… long story. I suspect that’s not what you mean though. This is tough. I’ve watched a lot of movies in my day… A LOT. Asking me to pick one isn’t possible, so here are… 10. Each of these has contributed something valuable to me, be it as an artist or as a storyteller.”The Seven Samurai”, “Night of the Hunter”, “Hobson’s Choice”, “V for Vendetta”, “Lawrence of Arabia”, “Blade Runner”, “The Lion in Winter”, “The Haunting” (1963 version), “Sunshine”, “Valhalla Rising”.
It’s an odd mix I know, but I’m an odd person.
  • What kind of project are you currently working on? Book? Journal? Jigsaw Puzzle? You get the idea.
Oh, I get the idea. I’m currently beta-reading a book for the talented Bob Goddard; he writes near-Earth sci-fi. “Mother Moon” is the first book in this series. I’m also finishing up book two of “The 942 Series”, “The Interview”, which I hope to have out to beta-readers ‘soon’. Along with that, I’m finishing up two sets of commissions (both of which are horrifically overdue – a thousand apologies to Heidi Burke and John Baker, who have been Saints). Once those are done, and the assorted parties are pleased, I’ll move on to working on book 3 of my series as well as compiling all the illustrations for the sketchbook I plan to release sometime between 2019 – and 2020 – visit my Patreon page for more details on that project.
  • Froo Froo coffee drinks are: a) part of my daily life; b) acceptable for an occasional treat or; c) an abomination in the eyes of any true coffee connoisseur?
    b.
  • Do you dress up for Halloween?
I do, but no one can tell.

My nominees:

S. A. Gibson – Protected Books
Jean Lee’s World
The Naked Reviewers

All three blogs inspire me on a daily basis.

My questions:

  1. What first sparked you to write?
  2. What is your guilty pleasure genre (movies, books, tv/netflix series – your choice)
  3. Aside from your skill with words, do you have another talent (musical, actor, artist, animal-whisperer, superhero…)?
  4. Coffee, tea, or something else entirely?
  5. What do you hope to achieve by the end of this year?

Cheers,
J. I. Rogers
